Project in Brief
Telengiri Irrigation Project is a medium irrigation project across the river Telengiri, a tributary of river Indravati, which is an inter-state river is flowing through Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. The project envisages irrigation to a Cultural Command Area (CCA) of 9,950 ha in Koraput district with 139% (Kharif - 89% + Rabi - 50%) irrigation intensity.
The main components of the project are:
- 1192 m long and 43 m high homogeneous earth fill dam
- Central spillway.
- 25.75 km long right main contour canal off taking from main dam
- Two nos. of dykes (425 m Right + 100 m Left)
Telengiri Irrigation Project was approved by the Planning Commission during 2003 at an estimated cost of Rs.106.18 crore,(1999 price level). The 101st TAC has accepted a revised cost of Rs.474.05 crore for the project at 2009 price level. Planning Commission has given the Investment Clearance for the revised cost in March, 2010. So far upto March 2011 no irrigation potential is created.
