1Sulwade BarrageBarrage/ Weir/ Anicut (BWA)

The Sulwade Barrage Medium Irrigation Project is constructed in the Tapi basin in Dhule district of Maharashtra. The project comprises of 503 m long barrage with weir of the maximum height of 13 m having 27 vertical lift gates each of size 15 m x 11 m across river Tapi near village Sulwade, Taluka Shindkheda in district Dhule. The clear waterway provided in the barrage is 405 m to pass design flood of 49224 m3/s at u/s HFL of 145.40 m. No canal system has been proposed for this project. The storage created by the construction of this barrage will provide water to irrigate the culturable command area (CCA) of 8400 ha in 20 villages of Shindkheda Taluka and 11 villages of Shirpur Taluka in Dhule district. The lifting of water and its distribution will be done by the farmers through the co-operative and private lift irrigation schemes. 82.87% command area of this project lies in DPAP area. The ultimate irrigation potential of the project is 8533 ha. The project will also provide 24.08 Mm3 water for domestic use for Dhule city water supply scheme, 1.01 Mm3 water for Varshi & nearby villages and 4.38 Mm3 of water for industrial requirements of the industrial growth centre at Nardane in Shindkheda Taluka.

The construction of civil works of the project was started in April 1999 and the mechanical works started in February 2004. The project was cleared by the Planning Commission, Govt. of India in December 2007 for Rs. 290.88 crore at price level 2006-07 after acceptance of the project by TAC in its 90th meeting held in September 2007.

The balance works of the main barrage; RCC deck bridge & approach road; mechanical work of gates; and other miscellaneous works of the project were included in AIBP during 2007-08. At the time of inclusion of the project under AIBP, 98% main barrage, 44% deck bridge & approach road, 45% mechanical works and 47% misc. works were complete. The balance works of the project to create the ultimate irrigation potential of 8533 ha were included under AIBP. The project is completed during 2009-10 and full potential is created.
