State
As per Census 2011, India is constituted by 28 States and 7 Union Territories (UTs) in the country. Among the States, Rajasthan is the largest state (342239 sq. km) and Goa is the smallest state (3702 sq. km). Among the UTs, Andaman & Nicobar Islands (8249 sq. km) ranks first while Lakshadweep (32 sq. km) is the smallest.Indian Union comprises of 593 districts (Census of India, 2001). However, in the last decade 47 new districts have been created with total number of districts increased to 640 (Census of India, 2011).
