Project in Brief

Sidhatha Medium Irrigation Project with an initial estimated cost of Rs 33.62 crore (1996-97 Price level) is located in Jawali Tehsil of Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. The Project was started in the year 1997-98 to provide irrigation facility in Jawali Area covering a CCA of 3150 ha with an ultimate Irrigation potential of 5350ha. The estimated cost of the project was revised in year 2007 to Rs 66.35 crore (2006 price level) and was approved by TAC & Planning Commission, GOI in year 2007. In August 2010, the cost of the project is re-revised to Rs 95.29 crore which is approved by P.C in April-2011. The various components of the projects are as under:

i)Head works-Weir

Project envisages diversion of water of Dehar stream, a tributary of the river Beas, to irrigate 3150 ha of CCA by constructing a diversion weir near Village Anuhi. The water from weir will be carried to fields through a 13.771 km long main canal water conductor system.

ii)Main Canal (water conductor system)

13.771 km long Main Canal water conductor system is proposed on right bank of Dehar stream with maximum discharging capacity of canal at head of 3.26 cumecs (as against the water requirement of the project of 2.61 Cumecs) to irrigate 3005 ha of CCA.

iii) Distributaries

Three numbers lined distributaries network namely D-1, D-2 and D-3 of total 11.100 km length have been proposed from main canal in the project. Length of distributaries D-1, D-2 and D-3 is 5.6 km, 3.2 km and 2.3 km respectively.

iv)Lift Schemes

7 numbers of lift schemes with a total capacity of 1861 BHP have been proposed to irrigate 773 ha CCA at higher elevations where irrigation is not possible by gravity flow. One lift scheme is situated on left bank of the Dehar stream to irrigate an area of 145 ha and 6 lift schemes are situated on right bank to irrigate 628 ha of CCA. The water for one number left bank Lift Irrigation scheme is to be lifted from head works and for remaining 6 LIS on the right bank, water will be lifted from different locations from Main canal by installing pumping machinery and rising mains.

The project is brought under AIBP since 2000-01 and so far irrigation potential of 823.39 hectare is created.
