Brief Description of Project
Shivnath Diversion is a medium irrigation project located on river Shivnath a tributary of Mahanadi river. The project is located near village Chando in Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisgarh. The project is 51 km from Rajnandgaon town. The length of masonry weir is 275.0 meter and its height is 3.20 m. The project is planned to provide irrigation to 5870 hectare of land on the right bank of river Shivnath during Kharif season. The length of main canal is 50.84 km and total length of distributaries and minors is 58.94 km.
The project was approved by Planning Commission in the year 1978 for an estimated cost of Rs 0.40 crore, with CCA as 3272 hectare and potential of 2630 hectare. The project was started in the year 1976 but the progress remains slow and only 0.632 hectare potential was created. Subsequently the project received funding during the year 1997 under AIBP to complete the balance remaining works. The project has been completed during 2002-03 and full potential of 5870 hectare has been developed. The cost of the project is 24.20 crore.
