Project in Brief
Punpun Barrage Project envisages construction of a barrage on river Punpun at Hamidnagar village in Goh block of Aurangabad district. The proposed length of the barrage is 178 m with 12 Nos. of Barrage Bays (each of 10 m width), 2 Under Sluice Bays (each of 10 m width) and 2 Nos.of Head Regulator (each of 6m width) of the Main Canal. The Bed Level and the Pond Level of the Barrage is at 70.91 m and 76.83 m respectively. The main canal, off taking from the right bank of the river, extent to a length of 26.03 km. A 10.524 km. long Kinjar distributary off taking from the Main Canal near Khemkaran village will irrigate area lying between Ganghar and Punpun rivers. River Ganghar is a tributary of river Morhar while Morhar is a tributary of river Punpun. A 43.5 km. long Branch canal viz. Punpun Branch Canal off taking from the tail end of main canal will irrigate area between Punpun and Morhar rivers. The total annual irrigation contemplated from the Project is 13.68 Th ha. spread in the districts of Patna, Gaya and Jahanabad.
The Planning Commission accorded Investment Clearance to the Project in January, 2006 vide letter No.2(354)/2001-WR dated 13th January, 2006 for an estimated cost of Rs 102.26 crore. The latest estimated cost of Rs 658.12 Cr. (SOR 2009), approved in 101th TAC of MoWR held in Nov.2009,and Planning Commission has also accorded investment clearance in 10.03.2010.
This Project has been included under AIBP during 2007-08. The CCA and Irrigation potential of the project is 13680 hectare and so far no irrigation potential is created.
