The Musurumilli Reservoir Project, a Medium Irrigation project, is being constructed across Seethapalli vagu, which is one of the tributaries of the river Godavari, near Musurumilli village about 7 km from Rampachodavaram and 55 km from Rajahmundry in East Godavari District. The project envisages construction of headworks comprising earth dam (1.040 km length), head sluice and diversion of roads. The canal system comprises a length of 35.40 km to irrigate an ayacut of 9,164 ha.The project on completion will create ultimate irrigation potential of 9,164 ha (22,643 acre) and facilitate drinking water to a population of 53,890 persons living in 23 villages.
The project envisages the following components.
(i) A 1.040 km long earthen dam with a miximum height of 31 m in deep course with top width of 6 m and FRL +123.00 m. The gross storage capacity is 45.293 Mcum and live storage capacity is 40.414 Mcum.
(ii) A spillway of 86.50 m long with 7 Nos. of radial gates, each of size 10 m x 7.5 m to discharge 2,944 cumec at +123.00 m. The crest level of spillway is +115.50 m.
(iii) A head sluice with one vent of size 2.70 m x 1.60 m at km.0.19 of the dam to draw 7.1286 cumec into the canal, which is located on the left side of the river. Length of canal is 35.44 km.
(iv) A provision of 2.08 Mcum of water is made for providing drinking water to 23 villages enroute the canal.
Investment clearance to the project was accorded by the Water Resources Division of Planning Commission in the year 2007 for Rs.207.00 cr (SOR 2004-05) vide its Lr.No.20(1)/2007-WR, dt. 23.3.2007. The project was started during the year 2005. The project was brought under AIBP during the year 2007-08 and no irrigation potential was created before the project was included under AIBP. Upto March 2011 irrigation potential of 6537 ha is created.
