Brief Description
The Mahi Project is an irrigation and water supply project across river Mahi in Dhar and Jhabua District of Madhya Pradesh. The project envisages construction of two dams i.e. Mahi main dam and Mahi subsidiary dam. The main dam is situated on Mahi River near village Labriya in Sardarpur tehsil on Sardarpur-Badnawar road and the subsidiary dam is located near village Kalikarai in Sardarpur tehsil across Ramkheda Nala, which is a tributary of Mahi River. The project area is approximately 325 km from Bhopal. It is irrigation cum water supply project envisaged to provide irrigation facilities with canal system on both flanks of the river in a CCA of 18,227 ha, the annual irrigation being 26,430 ha in Dhar and Jhabua districts as well as industrial and drinking water supply of 51.64 m.cu.m to Ratlam, Jhabua and Dhar districts.
The project was approved by the Planning Commission at EC of Rs 61.52 crore at 1984 price level vide letter No. 2(185)/84-I&CAD dated 01.01.1985 The revised estimated cost of the project is Rs 490.39 crore (2009 price level), for which Investment Clearance accorded by Planning Commission vide letter No. 2(185)/2003-WR dated 20.07.2010.
Present Status
Both the dams are completed, the RBC from Subsidiary dam is complete and the LBC from Mahi main dam and its network is also nearing completion. Upto 3/2011 potential of 24230 hectare is created and balance is proposed to be created by June 2012. The project is getting CLA under AIBP since the year 2000-01 and so far expenditure on the project is Rs 434.50 crore.
