Project in Brief
The Maddigedda Reservoir Project is a medium irrigation scheme that envisages construction of an earthen dam across the river Maddigedda, a tributary of Yeleru river near Addateegala village in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. It is about 43 km. from Yerravaram juction on National Highway No.5 in East Godavari district. The ayacut proposed to be served by this project is 1,620 ha (4,000 acre) in khariff (wet) and 900 ha (2,220 acre) in rabi (ID) benefiting 10 villages of Addateegala mandal and one village of Yeleswaram mandal habitated mostly by tribals. An additional ayacut of 90 ha has also been proposed in 1986 by excavating Atchayyapeta-II distributary for a length of 7.61 km. The scheme was taken up in the tribal area mainly for upliftment of tribals.
The project components are as follows:
- Construction of Earth Dam for a length of 750 m;
- Construction of Spillway Regulator of 56 m;
- Construction of Head Sluice and
- Excavation of Main Canal of 18.824 km long with Distributary System on left bank.
- Total CCA of the project is 1710 ha and irrigation potential is 2520 ha.
The project was brought under AIBP during the year 2000-01 and completed during 2006-07.
