Brief Description
The Madan Tank Medium Irrigation Project is constructed in the Godavari Basin in Wardha district of Maharashtra State. The project components are as under.
- 1230 m long earth dam with maximum height of 26.55 m and 140 m long waste weir across Madan Nallah to pass maximum flood of 662.50 m3/s near village Madan in Arvi tahsil.
- 3488 m long and 12.64 m high Pick-up weir with 157.80 m long central ogee-type spillway 12 km d/s of the main dam near Wadgaon village in Seloo Taluka. The central spillway is designed to pass maximum flood of 1036.40 m3/s.
- Two main canals i.e. the Left Bank Canal (LBC) with the designed discharge of 2.02 m3/s and the Right Bank Canal (RBC) with the designed discharge of 1.91 m3/s of length 13.17 km and 11.52 km respectively taking off from the Pick-up weir to irrigate an area of 2535 ha (ICA) in a CCA of 4056 ha. The ultimate irrigation potential of the project is 3270 ha.
The Planning Commission approved the project in 1981 for Rs. 3.08 crore. The construction of the project started in 1979 but the work was held up from 1979 to 1996 for want of forest clearance. The work resumed in 1997. Subsequently the project was brought under AIBP during 2005-06 and the project is completed during 2008-09 and full potential is developed. The latest estimated cost of the project at 2004-05 price level is Rs. 88.09 crore.
