Overview

The Lower Goi Irrigation Project envisages construction of an earthen dam near village Panchpula,District Barwani (Madhya Pradesh) across river Goi,a tributary to river Narmada to provide irrigation to an area of 15.686 Th ha (annual irrigation) in Barwani district , a drought prone area in Madhya Pradesh. CCA of the project is 13760 hectare. In addition to providing the irrigation facilities,provision of 0.425 area in MCM of water per annum has been kept for drinking water purpose for Rajpur town for the projected population of the town up to the year 2025 and provision for 5.575 MCM of water per annum has been kept reserve for industrial purposes in the project proposal. The project will irrigate the land on the right bank through gravity flow canal.

Project Features

The project envisages construction of the following main works:

  • A 44.20 m high and 2400 m long earthen dam across river Goi with ogee shaped central spillway of length 220 m. The FRL and MWL of the dam are 300 m and 301.20 m respectively while the MDDL is 285.50 m. The gross and live storage capacities of the reservoir are 143.18 MCM and 112.24 MCM, respectively.
  • The spillway with crest level of 288 m to pass a Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) of 12026 cumec through 9 Nos. of radial crest gates of size 12.0m x 12.0 m each.
  • Construction of right bank gravity flow canal taking off through a tunnel on right flank of the reservoir. Length of main canal including 5.7 km long tunnel and approach is 41.40 km.

Techno - Economic Appraisal

The Lower Goi Irrigation Project was accorded Investment Clearance of Planning Commission vide letter No. 2(310)/2005-WR New Delhi 12.08.2008 with EC of Rs 360.37 crore.

Present Status

The project was started in the year 2008 and so far no irrigation potential is created. The project is receiving CLA under AIBP since the year 2008-09.
