Project in brief
The Krishna Koyna Major Lift Irrigation Project is situated in the Krishna basin in Maharashtra State. The project envisages construction of two components namely, Takari part & Mhaisal part.
a) Takari part consists of constructing head works like pump house, manifold, rising main, delivery chamber & allied works etc. for lifting of water from Satapewadi Barrage on Krishna river near Takari of Walwa taluka in Sangli district stage I to IV. It is proposed to utilize 9.29 TMC of water through canal having total length of 188 kms to irrigate 28939 ha. area in Kadegaon, Palus, Walvakhanapur and Tasgaon Talukas in Sangli district.
b) Mhaisal part consists of constructing head works like pump house, manifold, rising main, delivery chamber & allied works etc. in stage I to VI-A & VI-B. It is proposed to utilize 17.36 TMC of water through canals having total length of 373 kms to irrigate 92317 ha. area in Miraj, Kavthemahankal, Tasgaon and Jat Talukas in Sangli district as well as Sangola and Mangalwedha talikas in Solapur District.
c) About 99.4% of command area of this project lies in DPAP area.
d) The Krishna Koyna Major Irrigation Project has been approved by the Planning Commission, Govt. of India in October, 2009 for an estimated cost of Rs.2224.76 crore at 2005-06 price level. The CCA of the project is 1,72,470 hectare and Ultimate irrigation potential is 1,21,250 hectare.
The construction work of the project was started in the year 1984.The Krishna Koyna Major Irrigation Project has been included in AIBP during 2009-10. Upto February 2012 irrigation potential of 9443 hectare is created.
