Project Description
Koserteda Medium Irrigation Project (Chhattisgarh) envisaged construction of Koserteda dam across Koserteda Nalla, a tributary of river Markandi, under Indravati sub basin of Godavari Basin and is situated near village Salemeta in Baster district of Chhattisgarh, about 54 Km from Jagdalpur in South Chhattisgarh. The Project was started in the year 1980 but was stopped in 1990-91 due to non - clearance of forestland coming under submergence from the Ministry of Environment & Forest, Government of India. Work on the project re-started in the year 2002-03 after obtaining approval of diversion of required forestland from M/o Environment & Forest.
The Project comprises of an earthen dam 1305 m long with maximum height of 25.60 m. A 155 m long waste weir on a saddle on left flank with its crest at 117.70 m is provided with a maximum discharging capacity of 1,100 cumecs.
The canal system comprises of a main canal of 24.54 km length, a branch canal of 7.95 km length with head discharge of 10.47 m³/sec to irrigate 11,120 ha annually with an irrigation intensity of 139% and CCA is 9271 hectare, NIA is 8000 hectare.
Techno- Economic Appraisal
The Planning Commission accorded investment clearance to the project vide letter dated 25.02.1981 for an estimated cost of Rs 6.02 crore(1980 price level). The revised estimated cost of the project at 2009 price level is Rs 154.65 crore, which has been accepted by the Advisory Committee of M/o Water Resources in its 99th meeting held on 24.08.2009. Investment Clearance for revised estimated cost is accorded by Planning Commission vide letter No. 20(44)/3/2000-WR dated 10.05.2010.
Present Status
The project was started in the year 1980 and and it was brought under AIBP during 2002-03. The project is now compeleted during 2012 and potential of 11,120 hectare has been created.
