Hydro Electric Projects
A small hydroelectric plant (130 KW) established near Darjeeling in 1887 ushered the beginning of hydroelectric power development in India. since then, development of hydroelectric power in the country has made rapid strides. The hydel installed capacity which was only 508 MW in 1947 with 12 H.E. stations, 51 Units and the maximum unit size of 22 MW at bhira H.E. Project under TATA's , has risen to 34205 MW upto the end of XI plan(Does not include station capacity 25 MW and below). The maximum Unit size is now 250 MW at Koyna stage-IV under MAHAGENCO, Nathpa Jhakri under SJVNL and Tehri under THDC.
Note : 1 In addition to above 2 PSS (1080 MW) are under construction and 4785.6 MW PSS are under operation Developed
