Project in Brief
The Gul Medium Irrigation Project is constructed in the Tapi basin in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. The project comprises of 1194 m long earth dam with maximum height of 31.33 m and 175 m long masonry/concrete dam of 28.76 m maximum height with 42 m long ogee type spillway having discharging capacity of 1830.30 cumec with 3 radial gates of size 12 m x 8 m on river Gul near village Malapur, Taluka Chopda in district Jalgaon. The project also comprises 3.67 km long Left Bank Canal (LBC) and 4.62 km long Right Bank Canal (RBC) along with distribution network (DISNET) to irrigate the culturable command area (CCA) of 3708 ha in 11 villages of Chopda Taluka in Jalgaon district. The ultimate irrigation potential of the project is 3025 ha. Other benefits contemplated from the project are Fisheries.
The construction work of the project was started in 1994. The project was approved by the Planning Commission, Govt. of India in November 2005 for an estimated cost of Rs 65.736 crore at price level 2001-02. The updated estimated cost of the project amounting to Rs. 96.62 crore at 2007-08 price level was approved by TAC in its 99th meeting held on August 24, 2009.The project was brought under AIBP during the year 2005-06 and so far 1331 hectare potential is created.
