Brief of project
The Dongargaon Medium Irrigation Project is situated in the Godavari Basin near village Dongargaon in Rajura tahsil of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra State. This project comprises of the following components.
- 474 m long earth dam with maximum height of 19.83 m and a dyke 455 m long and 2.70 m high.
- 88 m long side channel spillway to pass maximum flood of 840 cumec.
- 6.845 km long Right Bank Canal (RBC) with its distribution network to cover the Culturable Command Area (CCA) of 2845 ha in Rajura Tehsil of Chandrapur district. The ultimate irrigation potential of the project is 3942 ha.
The project was approved by Planning Commission during the year 1981 for an estimated cost of Rs 2.15 crore.
Present Status
The construction of the project started during 1979-80. The project was brought under AIBP under fast track scheme during 2005-06. Before AIBP the potential created was 1176 hectare and under AIBP balance irrigation potential of 2766 hectare is to be created. Upto March 2011 irrigation potential undr AIBP created is 1977 hectare. Total potential created is 3153 hectare. The project is tragted to be complted during 2012-13. The latest estimated cost of the project is Rs 67.040 crore.
