Project in Brief
Chheligada Dam Project comprises of a concrete dam across river Badajore, a tributary of river Vamsadhara, at Chheligada, in Gajapati District of Odisha. The salient features of the project are:
- 160m long and 36m high concrete dam
- 90m long centrally located Ogee type gated Spillway
- 1.13 km long tunnel to connect Chheligada reservoir with Ghodahada river
- Canal system directly from the dam to irrigate in Gajapati district
- Pickup weir at Dekili over river Ghodahada
- Link Canal from Pick up weir to u/s of Ramanadi Division weir
- Remodelling of existing canal system and extension of Ramanadi Canal
- Laying of pipe line for drinking water supply to Berhampur (Distt. Ganjam)
The project was approved by Planning Commission in September 2003 at an estimated cost of Rs.52.96 crore (1999 price level) envisaging irrigation to a Cultural Command Area (CCA) of 3000 ha. The ayacut has since been extended by providing additional 800 ha Irrigation to Gajapati District. The revised cost of the Project is Rs.207.01 crore (2007 price level) which does not include the power component. The revised cost has been approved in the 92nd Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting held during February, 2008.
The project was started in 2003, and in the same year the entire project was brought under AIBP. Upto march 2011 no irrigation potential is created.
