Project Description
The Chaskaman Irrigation Project is located across river Bhima in Krishna basin near Village Bibi in Khed Taluka of Pune District in Maharashtra. The dam site is about 60 km from Pune city. The project comprises of composite dam consisting of earthen dam of 737.45 m length and masonry dam of 220.55 m length with a maximum height of 46.23 m from deepest foundation level, with a gated spillway of 72 m length having 5 Nos. of radial gates of size 12×8 m. On completion, the reservoir impounds is 241.69 MCM of water, out of which 214.50 MCM shall be utilized on completion for Irrigating 42200 ha command of left bank canal & 1970 ha command of right bank canal of Khed and Shirur Tahasil of Pune District. The total irrigable area is 44170 ha (32824 ha as per revised project report).
The project was accepted by Planning Commission in the year 1977 for Rs. 22.47 crores. The latest estimated cost as per the DSR 2000-2001 is Rs 388.13 crores as approved by Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation.The Irrigation potential of project is 32824 ha. Out of which 6635 ha has already created till 3/2002 prior to inclusion under AIBP. Under AIBP total potential of 24996 hectare is created and thus total potential of 31631 hectare is created and project is complted during 2008-09.
