Project in Brief

The Project is situated in the foothills of Naina Devi jee temple in District Bilaspur, in Himachal Pradesh. In year 1983 an agreement between the Governments of Punjab and Govt of Himachal Pradesh was reached according to which the Himachal Pradesh agreed to acquire land in Himachal Pradesh area required for the construction of Anandpur Sahib Hydel Channel project to be constructed by the Government of Punjab. In lieu, thereof, the Government of Punjab agreed to release 25 cusecs of water regularly from Anandpur Sahib Hydel Channel to Himachal Pradesh for Irrigation and drinking water purposes. To utilize the above said quantity of water, the Government of Himachal Pradesh decided to provide irrigation facility to the area lying on the foothills of Naina Devi Jee Temple in Tehsil Naina Devi Jee of Bilaspur District. In year 1998, the Govt. of H.P framed a Project proposal with an estimated cost of Rs. 28.37 crores to irrigate 2350 ha of CCA. The project with an estimated cost of Rs. 28.37 crore (1999 price level) received an investment clearance from Planning Commission in year 2000. Further, the project authorities revised the project cost to Rs. 88.09 crores and the revised estimated cost of the project amounting to Rs. 88.09 crore (2007 price level) also received approval of Planning Commission in April 2008.

The project involves lifting of water with the help of 6 nos pumps through 6 nos. rising mains of varying dia. and lengths to cover a CCA of 176, 293, 846, 322, 325 and 388 ha respectively in the Changer area. Originally, it was proposed to lift the water in the command area with the help of two pumps of 3300 HP & 2200 HP through two rising mains only. The layout plan of the project has been modified as per project topography. Water for the project will be drawn from the Anandpur Sahib Hydel Channel through a siphon and delivered to a sump well/collection tank and the water from the sump well will be lifted by six numbers rising mains to delivery tanks placed at the highest elevations of their respective commands. From these tanks, water is proposed to be conveyed further through gravity mains and sub-mains depending upon the area to be served by each pipe/rising main. From the gravity mains and sub-mains water is proposed to be conveyed to field through R.C.C. pipes of dia. ranging from 80 to 400 mm.

The construction activities on the project was started during year 1999-2000. The project is receiving Central Assistance under AIBP since the year 2000-2001 and the project is completed during 2011-12.
