Project in Brief
The Borolia Irrigation Scheme located in the Baksa District of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area of Assam State, envisages construction of Head Works on river Borolia with a canal system to irrigate a CCA of 9717 ha. The projects on completion will create ultimate irrigation potential of 13562 ha with intensity of irrigation of 152.26%. The main components of the project are
i) A Barrage 92 m long with 2 nos of bays of 6 M each for under sluice and 10 nos. of bays of 6 M each for river sluice to pass a design discharge of 1050 cumec.
ii) Length of Main canal- 10.48 km
Techno-Economic-Appraisal
The project was approved by the Planning Commission in the year 1980 for Rs 6.77 crores. The 1st cost revision of the project amounting to Rs 33.37 crore was conveyed by the Planning commission, Govt. of India vide letter No. 20(3)/91-1 & CAD dated 20.04.1992.
Present Status
The construction work of the project was started in the year 1980-81. Works of Unit-I i.e. barrage was completed in the year 1995 and its appurtenant works were completed in the year 2002. The work of unit-II i.e. canal system is under progress. Main canal is completed. The project was brought under AIBP in the year 1996-97 and upto March 2011, irrigation potential of 3300 hectare is created.
