Brief Description
Barnai Medium irrigation project is constructed across river Barnai, a tributary of river Rehar, in Ganga Basin. It is located near village Bade Damali in Ambikapur Tehsil of Sarguja district, Chhattisgarh state. The project is 30 km from Ambikapur city.
The project comprises of 2010 meter long and 24.72 meter high earthen dam of homogeneous section and 9.36 km long main canal with 3 number of distributaries and 18 number of minors to irrigate 2820 hectare land of 19 villages of Ambikapur.
The project was started in the year 1984 and the investment clearance to the project was given by Planning Commission in the year 1983 for an estimated cost of Rs 426.16 lakh. Due to slow progress of work the project was brought under AIBP funding during 2002-03 and the project was completed during 2006-07 and full potential of 2820 hectare has been developed. The project cost is Rs 18.70 crore.
