Introduction
Bargi Diversion Project (BDP) is a major trans-valley canal irrigation project envisaging construction of a 197.40 km long main canal off taking from the existing Bargi reservoir. The project will provide irrigation in 2,45,010 ha (CCA)/ 3,76,000 ha (Ann. Irr.) in Jabalpur, Katni, Satna and Rewa Districts of Madhya Pradesh. It also provides domestic & industrial water supply of 78 MGD to Jabalpur and Katni towns. The Right Bank Canal (RBC) with a head discharge of 227.438 cumecs carries water from Narmada basin to chronic drought prone areas in Satna, Katni and Rewa Districts in Sone and Tons Sub-basins of Ganga basin. The total length of main canal, branch canal and distribution system are 197.40 km, 254.14 km and 2700.00 km.
Techno-Economic Appraisal
The project with EC of Rs 1101.23 crore (1991 PL) was accepted by the Advisory Committee in its 53rd meeting held on 08.12.1992 and Planning Commission accorded investment clearance to the project on 6.7.1998 for the aforesaid cost of Rs 1101.23 crore. The latest revised estimated cost of the project is of Rs 5127.22 crore at 2009 PL for which investment clearance is accorded by Planning Commission vide letter No. 2(220)/2004-WR dated 17.12.2009.
Present Status
The project was started in the year 1992 and in the year 2001-02 the project received CLA under AIBP. The canal reaches is being executed under various phases and upto 3/2011 potential of 36,000 hectare is created.

Provision For drinking and Industrial Use
A provision of 116.4 MCM has been made towards drinking and industrial use for Jabalpur city and Katni town.
